Indonesia, October 2014
With airline miles that needed to be used, I started looking around for an inexpensive trip to take in October. I settled on the Gili Islands near Bali and Lombok, Indonesia. Before arriving, I stopped at Liberty Dive Resort in Tulamben, Bali, where I worked with Jeff Mullins on my underwater photography. Tulamben was intense with 3 to 4 dives per day, in addition to time spent reviewing photographic technique. Gili Air was much more laid back with a backpacker vibe. The diving here is still decent, but not as good as other places in Indonesia. It was a great place to spend a week relaxing, regardless. My dive guide, Unus, was particularly interested in macro subjects and found many creatures for me to photograph. As a bonus, I typically had him to myself because most of the clients were training for one thing or another.
